Dehorning bears fruit as rhino poaching deaths drop in 2024

Over 1,000 rhinos were dehorned last year in a park to deter poaching. Environment Minister Dion George noted a decrease in poaching deaths in KZN, dropping from 325 to 232 in 2024. A total of 420 rhinos were poached in South Africa last year, with 320 on state properties and 100 on private lands. KZN remains the hardest-hit province, but saw a decline due to dehorning efforts.
