Buffalo City in Eastern Cape, South Africa, has been ranked among the world’s most violent cities for the first time. The annual ranking by the Mexican Council for Public Security lists cities based on murders per 100,000 people. Five South African cities, including Cape Town and Durban, made the 2024/25 list, with Gqeberha leading domestically but dropping to 14th globally.
