A 16-year-old boy was arrested on March 27, 2025, for allegedly beheading a statue of Mary at a Catholic church in Melkbosstrand near Cape Town. The teen faces charges of property damage and violating anti-terrorism laws. The incident is reminiscent of a previous case involving twins who attempted to join ISIS. The teen appeared in court and was released to his parents’ care.
