Emission exemptions granted to eight Eskom coal power plants

Forestry, fisheries, and environment minister Dion George granted emissions exemptions to eight Eskom coal power plants for 5-10 years based on minimum emission standards. Eskom applied for more exemptions, but George balanced power generation needs with a just energy transition and cleaner air. Two power stations are decommissioning, so longer exemptions were not granted.
