The Department of Water and Sanitation opened a fifth sluice gate at Vaal Dam due to rising water levels. Urgent evacuation orders were issued for residents near the Vaal River, including Orkney, as the dam surpassed its capacity. Klerksdorp Fire Department advised residents to evacuate immediately and take precautions to prevent electrical hazards.
