White and Black farmers still bear the scars of Zimbabwe’s land grabs

In the early 2000s, Guy Watson-Smith’s 5,000-hectare farm in Zimbabwe was violently invaded by armed men, leaving him and his family with a choice to leave or die. Forced to flee to Harare, they left behind their land, workers, and families. Watson-Smith, a white commercial farmer, felt hurt and betrayed by the invasion.
