LEAP officers credited for drop in Cape Town crime rates

Increased deployment of LEAP officers in high-crime areas of Cape Town has led to a significant drop in violent crime. The Western Cape Government and City of Cape Town doubled LEAP officers in high murder rate neighborhoods in September 2024. This strategy has resulted in reduced homicides in four out of six targeted precincts, with Gugulethu and Nyanga seeing a 30% and 29% decrease, respectively.
