240 arrests have been made in a crackdown on the construction mafia in Johannesburg since November. Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean Macpherson shared the figures at a meeting in Sandton. Ongoing lifestyle audits and internal investigations are targeting corruption within the department to address hijacked buildings, incomplete projects, and extortion. Reforms are urgently needed.
