Department of Labour shuts down mortuary where rats were eating bodies

The New Brighton Forensic Pathology Services Laboratory in Nelson Mandela Bay was closed due to safety concerns, including rats eating bodies. Personnel were relocated to other facilities. A maintenance tender was put on hold due to a damages order. The Department of Health is working to address issues raised by the Department of Labour. Bodies will be dissected at another facility until concerns are resolved.
