Foreign investors flood out of South African stocks

Foreign investors sold South African equities rapidly in Q4 2024, shifting focus to bonds, resulting in reduced portfolio inflows. South African Reserve Bank reported a 26% decrease in inflows to R33.4 billion. Non-residents sold R19.7 billion in domestic stocks, a reversal from the previous quarter’s purchase of R4.1 billion. This marked the largest selloff since Q3 2023, while foreigners acquired R53 billion in debt securities.
