Former Prasa acting CEO pleads not guilty to stealing railway line

Former Prasa acting head Mthuthuzeli Swartz and businessman Nadir Mohiudeen pleaded not guilty to fraudulently selling 42km of railway line in the Eastern Cape. The trial began in Gqeberha Regional Court after years of delays. Swartz, arrested in 2019, allegedly provided cover for the rail’s removal. The cost to reinstate the line is estimated at R59 million. The case dates back to 2012.
