Microsoft and OpenAI are investigating if data from ChatGPT was accessed without authorization by a group linked to Chinese AI start-up DeepSeek. Microsoft’s security researchers noticed data exfiltration by individuals connected to DeepSeek using OpenAI’s API. DeepSeek’s free AI assistant surpassed OpenAI’s ChatGPT on Apple’s App Store, causing a tech stock sell-off. White House’s David Sacks suggested DeepSeek may have stolen intellectual property from the US.
