Minister Malatsi’s bid to get Starlink deal into orbit is weighed down by opposition

Communications Minister Solly Malatsi faces opposition over proposed legislative amendments for Starlink to operate in SA. Elon Musk’s Starlink has 6,750 satellites in orbit, while Amazon’s Project Kuiper plans 3,236 satellites. Amazon must launch half by July 2023 to keep FCC license. Amazon has not launched any rockets yet, with a planned launch postponed due to weather. Two prototypes are in orbit.
