Cape Town’s criminal courts are nearing collapse due to overwhelming workloads, inadequate facilities, and poor security. With too few courts and magistrates, cases are delayed for years, and many accused remain in custody. Urgent reforms are needed, including more courts, skilled magistrates, and improved witness protection.
