Franklin Sonn, former South African ambassador to the U.S., has died at 86. Born in Vosburg and raised in Queenstown, he was an educator and served as rector of Peninsula Technikon. Appointed by Nelson Mandela in 1995, Sonn played a key role during South Africa’s democratic transition and held positions on several major company boards.
