Kenya has initiated a $1.5 billion highway expansion project, partly funded by China, to enhance a vital East African transport corridor. The project, divided into two phases, follows the collapse of a U.S.-backed transit plan. China is renewing its engagement in Africa, pledging $50 billion in credit and investment over three years.
