South Africa is getting a new university school of medicine

North-West University begins construction on Desmond Tutu School of Medicine to combat South Africa’s medical professional shortage. Prof Bismark Tyobeka initiates construction at Potchefstroom Campus, with first students expected in 2028. NWU aims to address critical lack of doctors in North West province and country, where doctor-to-patient ratio is 0.31 per 1,000 people.
