South Africa’s Ministry of Electricity and Energy withdrew a decision to procure new nuclear energy capacity following a court challenge. Former Minister Gwede Mantashe initiated the process in 2019, but the determination was only published in January 2024. The Democratic Alliance contested the decision, arguing that the power to make it rested with the current minister, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa.
