South Africans banned from swimming at Durban beaches

Durban’s southern beaches banned swimming from 2 June 2025 due to the annual sardine run, removing shark nets for safety during the migration. The eThekwini Municipality cited increased shark activity near the shore as the reason for the prohibition, aiming to protect the public during the natural phenomenon between June and July.
