Fraud charges against former Johannesburg mayor Kabelo Gwamanda and co-accused Mduduzi Zondo have been provisionally withdrawn by the NPA. The charges were related to alleged duping of Soweto residents into paying for fake funeral policies. The state was unable to issue a trial-ready certificate, leading to the withdrawal. Gwamanda criticized the prosecution as politically motivated.
