Transport Minister Barbara Creecy disclosed that the department is still distributing Covid-19 relief funds to the taxi industry. A total of R408m has been allocated for a “one-off taxi gratuity” in the 2025/26 budget to finalize the disbursement of the 2021 relief fund. Challenges in the industry led to delays, with about 56,623 qualifying operating licenses still unpaid as of March 2023.
