A magnitude 7.7 earthquake in Myanmar’s Sagaing region caused extensive damage and shook Thailand. Myanmar is highly vulnerable to earthquakes due to its location on the boundary of two tectonic plates. While large quakes are rare in Sagaing, the region has experienced significant seismic activity in recent years. The Friday quake was particularly damaging due to the region’s history of seismic events.
