A mid-air collision between an American Airlines plane and a military helicopter in Washington DC has resulted in dozens of deaths. Forty bodies have been recovered, with no survivors expected. The crash, the worst civil aviation disaster in the US since 2001, occurred as the plane was attempting to land at Ronald Reagan National Airport. Pilots Jonathan Campos and Samuel Lilley were among the casualties.
