VAT hike is still on track, but treasury eyes U-turn

Despite public backlash, the VAT hike in South Africa is still scheduled for May 1. Treasury and SARS are reportedly exploring ways to avoid it through adjusted revenue targets and rebates. Finance Minister Godongwana insists the hike is necessary to address financial challenges. Executive Director Chris Hattingh discussed the issue with eNCA.
